Conferencing and post-conferencing ...

Learning Conference 2009

Well the day finally arrived - and paper delivered - technology worked and from the reaction of the audience and feedback I could say it was a success.

One woman said " now I finally know why I came to the conference- to see this presentation" (this was a great compliment). I was rather humbled by the feedback which was enthusiastic and generous. Some people were in tears - others wanted instant techo lessons on digital story telling! I managed to get a couple of invitations- one to work with kids in New York, a University in India, , and a community center in the UK - now I just have to finish the bloody PhD and take up some of these offers. this is the first time I have shown this short film so it was a good way to guage audience in terms of hitting the mark - I guess I hit it!

You may have noticed that as a result of being 'beseiged' after the presentation I have started another Blog - Landscape of Story. (not complete yet) Many people were keen to follow my work and communicate - I think it will be a great idea to weave a quilt of peoples stories over time - Terry you will be pleased to know that I am finally getting that Blog we talked about 2 years ago going.

Adele's presentation on Journals also went well and after the conference we made our way back to the Xampaynet for a very long lunch - washed down by too many local champagnes (the specialty of the House) Met some interesting characters, joined in the Catalan Saturday afternoon chaos and celebration ... nearly got robbed twice!!!! and finally staggered back to Hotel Banys to watch the Tour de France and sleep.

Woke up at 8.00 pm and hit the streets around the magnificent old Cathedral of Barcelona, listened to a Spanish classical guitarist busking in the rear enclave outside the church - superb accoustics -the magical strains filled the evening air as they wafted into the twilight past gargoyles, gothic spires now silhouetted against the darkening sky and the magical rainbow colours of the 'bubble thrower' as he mesemerised kids in a courtyard. Sometimes it is good to be alive!

Unfortunately, I have now got cold developing - boring - probably as I have finally relaxed after the conference. Off to bed and when I awake I hope I have good news about the CATS..... GO CATTERS!!!

  1. Congratulations on your conference presentation. The unfortunate thing is that we back home don't get to hear it. We need to work on 'sharing' these presentations internally. Your photos of the bubbles are terrifice. I watched the Cats yesterday, they fought hard, could have gone either way.

  2. Congrats on your presentation going so well! Thats fantastic! The Cats game was on another level to normal football, just amazing! We so nearly had a draw!!! Last goal by St Kilda secured it for them and we only had a minute and 20 seconds to pull something out and we couldnt quite get it. Its not over for us, im glad we lost here.. bit like when we should have lost to Hawks last year and didnt so now we wont rest from here on in. Bit scarey you nearly getting robbed.... take care xx

  3. Congrats on being so well recieved with your presentation. Very pleased for you seeing as so much time and efort went into the film. The game was great you will want to watch it when you get home. "Keep a lid on it - Gary" was not too bad this morning just happy wearing his scarf and trying to sing. Enjoy your time and take care especially seeing as you thin you are getting a cold. Cheers

  4. Thanks Catherine, Rachel and Wendy for your comments. I will have to do something about sharing the experience when I get back While I was a littel disappointed about the CAT news - I actually think - whew! now we can get on with it. The loss was going to happen sometime - I'm glad the second half was so valiant.

  7. Great to read about the feedback from your audience. Even better to hear that they want your expertise elsewhere. I had no doubt they would appreciate your story and journey. Must be a good feeling
Looking forward to helping out with your next story sharing/blog project.
